The destination

Montenegro is what the Riviera was before the world arrived — a coastline of fjord-like bays, Venetian stone towns and mountains that fall straight into the sea, with a fraction of the traffic of its Mediterranean rivals. The Bay of Kotor is the centrepiece: a UNESCO-listed inlet that feels closer to Norway than the Adriatic, where you can anchor beneath thousand-metre cliffs and dine in villages older than Venice itself. Porto Montenegro in Tivat has become one of the world's great superyacht marinas, with provisioning and facilities to match anywhere on the Côte d'Azur. From here, Dubrovnik lies a morning's cruise north and the beaches of Budva and Sveti Stefan an hour south. For charterers who feel they have seen the Mediterranean, Montenegro is the persuasive argument that they haven't. Go before everyone else does.
