The destination
The Algarve is an Atlantic coast charter rather than a Mediterranean one: cliffs, sea caves and beaches that are often easiest to reach by boat. From Vilamoura or Lagos you can work west past Albufeira towards Ponta da Piedade and the Benagil cave area, combining swimming stops with evenings in marina towns. Summer is busy ashore; on the water the day still tends to revolve around short coastal legs rather than long passages. Faro airport is close to the main marinas, and flights from the UK are typically under three hours, which makes long weekends and week-long trips practical. It works well for families, golf groups who want time afloat, and guests who prefer sunshine without the peak-season density of the Côte d'Azur.

Cruise west towards Albufeira, where golden beaches and whitewashed buildings sit above the Atlantic. Beyond the lively town, discover a beautiful stretch of coastline dotted with secluded coves, dramatic cliffs and clear water. Stop for a swim in a sheltered bay when conditions allow, or head ashore to explore the old town's cobbled streets and enjoy freshly caught seafood at a traditional Portuguese restaurant.

One of the Algarve's most extraordinary natural landmarks, Benagil is famous for its spectacular sea cave, where sunlight pours through an opening in the limestone ceiling onto the sand below. Explore the surrounding cliffs and hidden beaches from the yacht, with the possibility of a closer look at the caves using an appropriately authorised smaller craft when conditions and local regulations permit. This stretch of coastline is particularly memorable when experienced from the water.

Continue along the coast towards Lagos, passing the remarkable rock formations, natural arches and turquoise coves of Ponta da Piedade. Spend the afternoon discovering beautiful swimming spots before heading ashore to explore Lagos's historic old town, charming squares and excellent local restaurants. With its combination of dramatic scenery and relaxed Portuguese character, Lagos makes a wonderful finale to your Algarve charter.
